Book Description: England, 1879. Annabelle Archer, the brilliant but destitute daughter of a country vicar, has earned herself a place among the first cohort of female students at the renowned University of Oxford. In return for her scholarship, she must support the rising women’s suffrage movement. Her charge: recruit men of influence to champion their cause. Her target: Sebastian Devereux, the cold and calculating Duke of Montgomery who steers Britain’s politics at the Queen’s command. Her challenge: not to give in to the powerful attraction she can’t deny for the man who opposes everything she stands for. Sebastian is appalled to find a suffragist squad has infiltrated his ducal home, but the real threat is his impossible feelings for green-eyed beauty Annabelle. He is looking for a wife of equal standing to secure the legacy he has worked so hard to rebuild, not an outspoken commoner who could never be his duchess. But he wouldn’t be the greatest strategist of the Kingdom if he couldn’t claim this alluring bluestocking without the promise of a ring…or could he?Locked in a battle with rising passion and a will matching her own, Annabelle will learn just what it takes to topple a duke….

I received this book as an ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say not only was I hooked from the description of this book, but form the first few pages I didn’t want to put it down. You get swept up in the story and you immediately want to know what is going to happen. I was invested in Sebastian and Annabelle the second they met. Their chemistry was great. I loved the banter that would go back and forth with them; it is always one thing I love in romances is when the couple has some good back and forth.

The writing is well done and the story flows nicely. I like that you do feel like you are transported back to England in 1879 and you see some of the historical aspects of that time in this story. I thought the author did her research well. I definitely wouldn’t have picked this to be the authors debut novel if I had not known that!

The characters were well thought out. I liked that you learned background on Sebastian and Annabelle and see what really made them who they are. On top of it the supporting characters help move the story along nicely and they aren’t just there with no thought to them. I like that the story had romance, humor, history, and even some mystery.

I truly loved getting a chance to read this book and I can’t wait to read more of this series and other novels that this author puts out. I definitely recommend this you won’t be disappointed!
