Book Description: In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. When Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

I have to say this was just such a fun read, I love that there is so many 80s references and just fun references all around of pop culture. I think that if the OASIS was real I would definitely be a fan of playing it; I mean who doesn’t want to act out the scene from their favorite movies. Like when Wade has to go through Monty Python and the Holy Grail I mean how fun to do that! I would definitely not want the world to be like it is in the book where there are so many bad things going on, but instead just have the OASIS be a game we could play.

I thought the story was really well thought out and kept you entertained as you went. The book also kept you guessing, along with it trying to figure out the riddles and see where the next task would take Wade and the rest of the gang to find Halladay’s egg. You get to know all of the main characters and that is nice. The book has a nice pace set to it, I like that it has fun random things you learn as you go, but the story doesn’t feel drawn out.

I was definitely rooting for Wade and the top 5 to win. As I was reading this book my Husband and I had actually watched the movie and it was alright, and I was like well I saw the movies should I finish and boy am I glad I did. It was different than the movie and a lot better than the movie I thought. I thought that the ending was well done and all the loose ends were covered and I was content with the end. I would definitely love to delve back into the world of the OASIS and see how things have changed now with them winning and how Wade’s life has went on and how the rest of the gang are doing.

I would definitely recommend this book because it is a fun read, especially if you are fans of the 80s!
