Book Description:

Their passionate encounter happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her… and her body still cries out for him in her dreams.

Then Claire discovers that Jamie survived. Torn between returning to him and staying with their daughter in her own era, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face the passion and pain awaiting her…the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland… and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that can reunite or forever doom her timeless love.

I must admit I went into this book with some hope, in the middle I thought I am not sure I will finish the series, and ended with yes I will continue onto the next book. I feel like with this series it is like one step forward two steps back for Jamie and Claire. I just want them to have some time together without something horrible happening like one of them about to die, or Jamie going to jail, or someone tearing them apart. I was really shocked in this book when Jamie’s sister causes so many problems for them. When that happened I was like if Claire leaves him I am going to be so angry! I am like you did live with Frank for all this time even if you didn’t love him the same, what did you think Jamie was going to do?!

I was so angry with Frank when he was like I am going to take Brianna away from you and he was just mean to Claire. I know she isn’t completely in the right, but he does cheat on her constantly. I thought it was interesting how the situation was dealt with. Like bam Frank is now gone. I thought it was great that Brianna and Roger now have each other since Claire left to go back in time. I do think it is very romantic that all this time they have both still dreamed of each other and have now found their way back to each other. I think they are great for each other they love each other and they challenge each other. When she was taken on that ship I was like oh no don’t you end this story with them being apart again I can’t take it. Then they found each other again and I was like whew!

I think the idea of this series is great, I do wish the books were not so long and detailed, some areas I don’t care about all the details. So I do have to take a break in between reading them, mainly because I usually read books really fast so when I get one that takes me awhile I get antsy, ha ha. I think this is my favorite of the 3 books I have read so far, although the first was great as well. I think they are in a good place right now and hopefully in the 4th can continue on. I know they will have setbacks and what not because how else does this series continue without it but I hope that no matter int he end of this series they are together. Can’t wait to see what happens.

On a side note, I have started the second season of the series and was surprised with how nice they made Frank seem. He was all happy that Claire was back, then upset about the baby, but then totally happy again. Granted I have only watched 2 episodes so maybe he does get meaner, but in the book he sure wasn’t the nicest guy. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the series does, I love the actors they picked. That is now who I imagine in my head when I read.

My Rating: 4 out of 5
