Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy #2)

2016-06-23T15:25:02-06:00June 23rd, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , |1 Comment

Book Description: Historian Diana Bishop, descended from a line of powerful witches, and long-lived vampire Matthew Clairmont have broken the laws dividing creatures. When Diana discovered a significant alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, she sparked a struggle in which she became bound to Matthew. Now the fragile coexistence of witches, daemons, vampires and humans is dangerously threatened. Seeking safety, Diana and Matthew travel back in time to London, 1590. But they soon realize that the past may not provide a haven. Reclaiming his former identity as poet and spy for Queen Elizabeth, the vampire falls back in with a group of radicals known as the School of Night. Many are unruly daemons, the creative minds of the age, including playwright Christopher Marlowe and mathematician Thomas Harriot. Together Matthew and Diana scour Tudor London for the elusive manuscript Ashmole 782, and search for the witch who will teach Diana how to control her remarkable powers... I really enjoyed the second book in this series. I really like that this series has some thrills, romance, humor, and fun. I also really like reading a book again where it isn't a love triangle [...]

Book Description: Their passionate encounter happened long ago by whatever measurement Claire Randall took. Two decades before, she had traveled back in time and into the arms of a gallant eighteenth-century Scot named Jamie Fraser. Then she returned to her own century to bear his child, believing him dead in the tragic battle of Culloden. Yet his memory has never lessened its hold on her... and her body still cries out for him in her dreams. Then Claire discovers that Jamie survived. Torn between returning to him and staying with their daughter in her own era, Claire must choose her destiny. And as time and space come full circle, she must find the courage to face the passion and pain awaiting her...the deadly intrigues raging in a divided Scotland... and the daring voyage into the dark unknown that can reunite or forever doom her timeless love. I must admit I went into this book with some hope, in the middle I thought I am not sure I will finish the series, and ended with yes I will continue onto the next book. I feel like with this series it is like [...]

Book Description: They say only the dead can cross a Threshold, the dead and those who have faced a Nemesis Charm. When Apprentice Adventurers, Fletcher and Scoop, discover their mother has fallen under the curse of a strange sickness, they prepare to sail for its source, a Threshold, a doorway to the world beyond the Un-Crossable Boundary. But they are not the only ones seeking to cross the Threshold. Their old enemy, Grizelda, has heard that beyond the Boundary lives a woman with the same power as the Storyteller. With the help of a monster made with an undead heart, she plans to cross the Boundary and steal that power for herself. If she succeeds, the Academy, the island and everything in Fletcher and Scoop's world will be hers. I was very excited to get a chance to read this book because it is my first ARC book review! I was given a copy of The Nemesis Charm in exchange for an honest review. I have actually not read the first book however the 2nd book does well as a stand alone novel in the sense that I could figure out [...]

Finders Keepers (Bill Hodges Trilogy #2)

2016-05-23T20:52:35-06:00May 23rd, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , |1 Comment

Book Description: “Wake up, genius.” So begins King’s instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn’t published a book for decades. Morris Bellamy is livid, not just because Rothstein has stopped providing books, but because the nonconformist Jimmy Gold has sold out for a career in advertising. Morris kills Rothstein and empties his safe of cash, yes, but the real treasure is a trove of notebooks containing at least one more Gold novel. Morris hides the money and the notebooks, and then he is locked away for another crime. Decades later, a boy named Pete Saubers finds the treasure, and now it is Pete and his family that Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson must rescue from the ever-more deranged and vengeful Morris when he’s released from prison after thirty-five years. I just recently finished reading the second book in Stephen King's Bill Hodge's trilogy. I thought it was a pretty good follow up to the first one, but I did not like it more than the first book. I thought the first [...]

Figment (Insanity #2)

2016-05-02T14:47:38-06:00April 21st, 2016|Tags: , , , , , , |0 Comments

This is the second book in the Insanity series by Cameron Jace. It is about a mad Wonderland. I stumbled across this one day and thought hey this series sounds like a fun different read. I have so far really enjoyed it! Description: After her encounter with the Cheshire Cat, Alice Wonder can hardly tell reality from imagination. But when kids have their head chopped off and stuffed in watermelons all over the city, it's clear that another Wonderland Monster has arrived, possibly scarier than the Cheshire. Alice, along with Professor Pillar, have to solve the killer's puzzles before a horrible event threatens the death of millions. Then Jack Diamonds appears again. This time, Alice must know who he really is. The first book in this series was great it kept me hanging on and wanting to know what was going to happen and see if she was truly the real Alice. Book 2 did not disappoint. It left off right after the first one and once again you are immersed in this crazy reality of are Wonderland Monsters taking over the real world and is Alice really the real Alice [...]

Odd Hours (Odd Thomas #4)

2016-04-19T02:25:34-06:00April 19th, 2016|Tags: , , , , , |0 Comments

I have been slowly working my way though the Odd Thomas series, I was actually lent the first 4 by my sister-in-law. They are good books to read in between those really long ones because they are a quick read. For some reason when it takes me a long time to read a book I get really antsy and so I need a good quick one I can read in a week just to like reassure myself I can still read a book fast. This is the 4th book in the Dean Koontz series. Odd Hours by Dean Koontz Description of the book: After grappling with the very essence of reality itself, after finding the veil separating him from his soul mate, Stormy Llewellyn, tantalizingly thin yet impenetrable, Odd longed only to return to a life of quiet anonymity with his two otherworldly sidekicks—his dog Boo and a new companion, one of the few who might rival his old pal Elvis. But a true hero, however humble, must persevere. Haunted by dreams of an all-encompassing red tide, Odd is pulled inexorably to the sea, to a small California coastal [...]
