Book Description: Follows two fiercely independent young women, centuries apart, who hold the power to save their world…or doom it.
When assassins ambush her best friend, the crown prince, Rielle Dardenne risks everything to save him, exposing her ability to perform all seven kinds of elemental magic. The only people who should possess this extraordinary power are a pair of prophesied queens: a queen of light and salvation and a queen of blood and destruction. To prove she is the Sun Queen, Rielle must endure seven trials to test her magic. If she fails, she will be executed…unless the trials kill her first.
A thousand years later, the legend of Queen Rielle is a mere fairy tale to bounty hunter Eliana Ferracora. When the Undying Empire conquered her kingdom, she embraced violence to keep her family alive. Now, she believes herself untouchable–until her mother vanishes without a trace, along with countless other women in their city. To find her, Eliana joins a rebel captain on a dangerous mission and discovers that the evil at the heart of the empire is more terrible than she ever imagined.
As Rielle and Eliana fight in a cosmic war that spans millennia, their stories intersect, and the shocking connections between them ultimately determine the fate of their world–and of each other.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I must say this is one book that I really wanted to read from the description and I tried to get in ARC in many different ways and it paid off! I was super excited that I got a hardcopy of it because just look at that cover; it is awesome! I was definitely not disappointed in this book. It is one of the best ARCs I have read in a while. I can tell from this book this series is going to be one I will be anxiously waiting to finish.

I thought the story was unique, you have two different women and two different timelines, but yet their stories intersect. It was cool that each chapter switched between the two. Usually this isn’t my favorite way to read a book, but I thought it flowed really well and you weren’t left confused the story still flowed nicely. The story was also unique because you have a book about a prophecy of two queens one will be the Sun Queen and the other the Blood Queen and you are trying to figure out who is who as the book progresses. This is about humans and angels which is something that isn’t really out there as much as say wizards and vampires and such so it was a nice change.

I thought the characters were well developed and I liked the two main characters a lot. I definitely was rooting for them. I also thought the supporting characters were given good background and that I cared about them as well. There was adventure, suspense, humor, romance, it had it all. I felt like I could envision what was happening as I read it and just wanted to keep reading to find out what else happened. I definitely am left wanting more and really want the next book to be out so I can find out what happens.

Book Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
