2018-03-28T21:17:58-06:00March 28th, 2018|Tags: , , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: TORN is the first book in an enchanting debut fantasy series featuring a seamstress who stitches magic into clothing, and the mounting political uprising that forces her to choose between her family and her ambitions, for fans of The Queen of the Tearling. Sophie is a dressmaker who has managed to open her own shop and lift herself and her brother, Kristos, out of poverty. Her reputation for beautiful ball gowns and discreetly-embroidered charms for luck, love, and protection secures her a commission from the royal family itself -- and the commission earns her the attentions of a dashing but entirely unattainable duke. Meanwhile, Kristos rises to prominence in the growing anti-monarchist movement. Their worlds collide when the revolution's shadow leader takes him hostage and demands that Sophie place a curse on the queen's Midwinter costume -- or Kristos will die at their hand. As the proletariat uprising comes to a violent climax, Sophie is torn: between her brother and the community of her birth, and her lover and the life she's striven to build. I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. [...]

Book Description: England 1855 - The venturesome and audacious Lady Portia Phillips is determined to discover the identity of the puckish and handsome specter repeatedly appearing to her while she is visiting her cousin's country estate. As she investigates, questions arise... is this Spirit haunting her or is there some other explanation for his ethereal appearances? Is it a cry for help? Portia must learn the truth before she loses her heart to this charmingly appealing apparition. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I had read another book that involved a ghost and human before and loved it, so I was immediately drawn to this book to see how it played out and I was not disappointed. I thought that the story was unique and a fun concept. Who knew that if you swore to be blood brothers/sisters that you would be able to astral travel to them?! Like I said it is just a fun concept and to me something I haven’t read much of before. I like that you know what is going on pretty fast and that you aren’t left guessing who [...]

Book Description:  One hit man who’s back for revenge. One detective who’s not going down without a fight. Still, she’s doing her best to consider all the evidence. When she receives a threatening letter from Constantine, however, her suspicions are confirmed. And he’s made it abundantly clear that not only does he plan to finish what he started but he has her family and loved ones in the crosshairs, too. Book Description: The cat must free Queen Nefertiti from a horrific curse The Eye of Nefertiti is both a stand-alone novel and a sequel to The Pharaoh’s Cat. The time-traveling ancient Egyptian feline with human powers returns together with his beloved Pharaoh and his close friends, the High Priest of Amun-Ra and Elena, an Egyptologist’s daughter. The cat travels from present-day New York City to England, both ancient and modern, then to ancient Egypt, where he confronts a horrible demon and experiences a sublime emotion. Once back in England, he descends into a psychological abyss so deep only the Pharaoh can save him. The Eye of Nefertiti interweaves feline and human, past and present, natural and supernatural. It contains numerous surprises, twists and turns, intriguing characters, both human and animal, fascinating revelations about ancient Egyptian history and culture, and an ingenious application of the Tarot and an Italian opera. Do the Opposite of Nothing Book Review

2017-07-06T21:24:09-06:00July 6th, 2017|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: You enter your home after a long day ready to just relax, but the first thing you see is a pile of clutter. Ugh. Every time a pile of clutter catches your attention or gets in your way (or trips you or embarrasses you or angers you), you think to yourself, “I have to go through this…but not now, because I’m too fill-in-the-blank (tired, busy, etc.).” That intention is as far as the organizing actually gets, and the cycle just begins again. Frustrating, isn’t it? What if I told you that busting through the never ending sequence of procrastination and perpetual heaps of clutter was not only possible, but with the strategies in this book, almost painless? I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I must say I am not one that typically reads these type of books, I am all about the fantasy and fiction books in general. However, I am glad that I got a chance to read this book! I will admit it I totally resonate with most of the reasons people procrastinate...and I admit it I am a procrastinator! The [...]

I have to first start out and say that I truly enjoyed this book. It kept me entertained the entire time, no grammar mistakes, it had a good plot, and the twists were good. Pretty quickly the suspense sets in with this book, you get a quick look at what is happening with Hannah and then she comes home to share good news with her boyfriend and surprise he is gone! Not just gone but everything of his has been taken from the apartment and every memory of him wiped away. At first I was thinking okay what kind of government type of conspiracy is [...]

Book Description: When multiple body parts are recovered from the Little Ogeechee River in Savannah, Georgia, local law enforcement calls in FBI agent and profiler Brandon Fisher and his team to investigate. But with the remains pointing to three separate victims, this isn’t proving to be an open-and-shut case. Why are their limbs being severed and their bodies mutilated? And what is it about them that is triggering this person to murder? The questions compound as the body count continues to rise, and when a torso painted blue and missing its heart is found, the case takes an even darker turn. But this is only the beginning, and these new leads draw the FBI into a creepy psychological nightmare. One thing is clear, though: The killing isn’t going to stop until they figure it all out. Fallen to Grace (Celestial Downfall #1)

2016-12-05T18:48:06-07:00December 5th, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: Azrael's a wingless angel, and if that wasn't bad enough, she's the only one with a functioning conscience. Her bi-color eyes mark her as a moral hybrid, and when she breaks her enslavement to Manor Saffron by making a deal with a demon, she doesn't expect to become Queen. She’ll have to survive her new royal magic, convince a legion of angels she’s worth fighting for, and find the breach in her Faustian deal, or risk a new master with horns. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I thought that this was an overall good book. It was a fresh take on angels and demons and I liked that. It kept me entertained trying to figure out what was going to happen and was intrigued with how the story came together. I like that you are seeing this take on how these Windborns are actually basically fallen angels. However, I must admit I did get confused at times when it was being explained how they were born and how the hybrids are made, why they are sold and that type of stuff. [...]

The Firebird Chronicles: The Gell

2016-11-30T22:56:09-07:00November 30th, 2016|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

Book Description: Enjoy exploring the world of the Firebird Chronicles series with this accompanying short story. It's Fletcher and Scoop's Beginning year at Blotting's Academy - the place where all story characters go to be trained. Join the young Apprentice Adventurers as they find themselves stranded on a rock in the middle of the ocean, with no visible means of escape. It's time for them to learn one of the basic lessons of stories - risks have to be taken. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have read the second book in this series and this short story takes place between the first one and the one I read. I thought it was a fun read, I did miss hearing all of the different fun named places. I do get though it was a short story so they can't all be named. I still think the idea behind this series is fun and that it appeals to all ages, although I would say to the younger crowd, but I still enjoy reading it. I like that there are little life lessons that you [...]

Enchanting the Fey

2016-11-29T18:41:43-07:00November 29th, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: The day Desmoree Shale was kidnapped and awoke naked on a slab in a Sydney morgue should have been the worst day of her life – but she’s not dead, barely harmed, and her would be assassin, Jax, is actually kind of… cute. Tempted by the idea of a mythical fairy-land, Des joins Jax in discovering the past her mother was determined to keep hidden. She quickly learns there was a reason for her mother’s secrecy. Finding herself smack in the middle of an eons-old war between two feuding Fey species, prophesized to take on a vicious beast, and pressured to unlock her magic is not what Des had been expecting. Now she must decide between a terrible battle in the new life she loves or returning to piece together the one she left behind. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I must start by saying I really love the cover that Rebecca picked. I think it just flows well and is really pretty and eye catching. I love that those blue shoes she talks about is on the cover. I thought [...]

The Introvert

2016-11-22T16:50:49-07:00November 22nd, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: A vacuum salesman by day, the introvert lives a quiet life alone with his dog until a work relationship and a dark secret from his past team up to create an uncomfortable imbalance in his otherwise ordered life, one that soon finds him squarely at the center of a murder investigation. With his thoughts continually urging him to make people “red and open” and to “achieve it” with his girlfriend Donna, what follows is a sometimes brutal, oftentimes hilarious, and absurdist account of the life of one very anti-social and unexpected anti-hero. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I thought this book was an interesting read. It was told from the first person perspective and you never even find out the name of the person telling the story. You get to really feel what he thinks and the thought process that is inside of his head. You can tell that there is obviously something not quite right about him with the fact that he sees people as open and red when he is upset with them. Which would indicate some sort of [...]

Puck (A Twisted Lit Novel)

2016-11-16T19:15:41-07:00November 16th, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: Life isn’t always fair, and no one knows that better than fifteen-year-old Puck. When she’s unceremoniously booted from yet another foster home, this city kid lands at DreamRoads, a rehabilitation wilderness camp. Her fellow juvenile delinquents include a famous pop star with a diva attitude, a geeky, “fish out of water” math whiz, and a surly gang-banger with a chip on his shoulder. The program’s steely director aims to break Puck, but she knows that every adult has a breaking point, too. Determined to defy this realm of agonizing nature hikes and soul-sucking psychobabble — even if that means manipulating four lovestruck camp counselors and the director’s dim-witted second-in-command — Puck ultimately gets much more than she bargains for in this “wondrous strange” outdoor odyssey inspired by Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was intrigued when I got the request to review this book because I enjoy the Midsummer Night's Dream story and thought that is cool it is a twisted version of it. Hence the name twisted lit novel. When I first started reading I [...]

Like a Closed Fist

2016-11-08T19:48:32-07:00November 8th, 2016|Tags: , , |0 Comments

Book Description: It was harmless enough: her best friend's wedding. But for California girl Phoebe, forty-eight hours in North Carolina changed her life. No one is more surprised than Phoebe when she falls hopelessly in love with her dad’s much older, very married friend. Although she wants nothing more than to jump headfirst into an affair with Mitch, he refrains, telling her she’s just a kid. Determined to prove him wrong, young Phoebe learns the irony of best laid plans. She travels to North Carolina for a wedding and accidentally falls head-over-heels for two very different men: Mason, the hotel concierge, and Frankie, a captain in the Merchant Marines. Throw in two old flames and a hunky masseur and you’ve got a most complicated love hexagon in this cautionary tale of love, sex, grief, and growing up. I am excited that I am finally getting into doing some ARC requests and want to thank E.H. Nolan for giving me the opportunity to review this book. I thought the book was an interesting twist in the sense that the ending isn't like a typical romance in the sense of how it ends [...]
